OTTAWA - February 27, 2008 – As t housands of Canadians plan their March Break getaway, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) reminds air travellers to keep security in mind and pack accordingly to avoid delays.
All of Canada's major airports expect to see a rise in passenger traffic over the coming weeks as thousands of students and families head for the beach or ski slopes.
"Screening officers are there for everyone's protection. To help them do their work effectively and efficiently, we need air travellers to be well informed and well prepared for the screening process," said Yves DuGuay, CATSA Vice President Operations.
The best way to breeze through screening? Leave liquids, gels and aerosols behind. If that's impractical, pack shampoo, sunscreen, hairspray and the like in your checked baggage. Bottled water and other beverages are not permitted through pre-board screening due to the threat posed by even a minute quantity of liquid explosives. Liquids, gels and aerosols are only allowed in carry-on when in containers of 100mL (3.4 ounces) or less. The containers must be placed in a clear, resealable, 1L plastic bag - maximum one bag per person.
CATSA has attached a helpful list of Spring Break packing tips. For more on Canada's air travel security regulations, consult www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca or call 1-888-294-2202.
