Québec, Quebec, February 19,2008 Acting on behalf of the
Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada
Economic Development, the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Status of Women
and Official Languages, today announced $150,000 in repayable funding to
Brain Center International Inc., a young Quebec SME headed by
Dr. Stéphane Bergeron.
Active in the field of neuroscience, Brain Center International has developed
the NeuroActive® program, innovative software whose use can serve to
enhance brain performance, stimulate the development of 16 brain functions and
help prevent the onset of memory problems and the cognitive decline associated
with such degenerative neurological disorders as Alzheimer's disease.
"The Government of Canada has made innovation and scientific knowledge the
focus of its economic development strategy. I am proud that Canada Economic
Development is lending its support to an enterprise that is seeking to take the
promising market of information technology for neuroscience by storm with
software it has recently developed through advanced research and study," stated
Minister Verner.
This funding has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's
Business and Regional Growth program,
a measure adopted by the Government of
Canada to help enterprises engage in innovation and enhance their performance in
order to become more competitive and enjoy sustained growth. This support will
enable Brain Center International to promote its
NeuroActive® program to consumers and health-care professionals in
Canada and the United States through advertising, an improved website,
promotional materials and participation in specialty trade fairs.
"Today, millions of North Americans are keenly aware of the importance of
actively exercising their brain to maintain its vitality and health. This
financial support will allow us to meet their needs while showcasing the Québec
region's expertise and know-how in the area of life sciences and information technology," explained
Dr. Stéphane Bergeron, President of Brain Center
International.
