Waltham, Quebec, February 18, 2008 – Acting on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced that the firm Créations Pro-Cèdre will receive $59,170 in funding, $28,585 of it in the form of a non-repayable contribution, for a new business startup and the launch of operations at its new factory.
Créations Pro-Cèdre will use this new factory to manufacture ready-to-assemble gazebos and spa shelters as well as such landscaping components as decks, ramps and furniture. The firm intends to develop its own website and launch an advertising campaign to market these new products.
"The contribution we are announcing today will help facilitate the diversification and consolidation of economic base in the Pontiac area. Canada Economic Development's funding of this project is consistent with the measures our government has put in place to foster the emergence of new enterprises and eliminate the barriers to their growth and expansion. This startup, which will result in the creation of seven full-time jobs, will help stimulate the manufacturing sector in a very concrete way and have a positive impact on the Waltham economy," stated Minister Cannon.
"This support from Canada Economic Development has given us significant leverage in creating this company, which required a total investment of nearly $250,000. It was just the helping hand we needed to be able to undertake new activities following our 2007 fire," explained Créations Pro-Cèdre President Luc Fortin.
Secondary and tertiary wood processing is a promising niche for the Outaouais region, as are high technology, tourism and agri-processing. It is in these priority sectors that Canada Economic Development has decided to focus its development efforts by supporting projects that will have an impact on both the region's urban areas and rural belt.
