LÉVIS, Quebec, February 11, 2008 - On behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, Steven Blaney, Member of Parliament (Lévis-Bellechasse), today announced funding for Diffusion culturelle de Lévis.
Funding of $40,000 will be used by the organization for its 2008 programming. During this period, Diffusion culturelle de Lévis will present a rich and varied program of activities. About 90 events--including nearly 60 concerts covering a range of musical styles, theatrical presentations for students as well as the whole family, and many other cultural events--will be on offer for audiences to enjoy.
"Since its foundation, Diffusion culturelle de Lévis has offered audiences the opportunity to discover and enjoy many high-calibre artists and performers," said Minister Verner. "Our Government is proud to support this wonderful performance organization, which ensures vitality throughout the entire Lévis region."
"In terms of cultural organizations, Diffusion culturelle de Lévis is a benchmark for the entire region. The members of its team and its board of directors have done great work in presenting artists from the region and elsewhere," said Mr. Blaney. "They give us the chance to make wonderful discoveries and have enriching encounters, and for this I thank them."
Pierre Lainesse, Chair of the Board of Directors of Diffusion culturelle de Lévis, emphasized the "vital importance of this public support to help us fully carry out our critical mission. We can now better serve our community and more accurately reflect the amazing creativity and the broad artistic diversity of the people of Lévis, Quebec, Canada, and abroad."
Diffusion culturelle de Lévis is a non-profit organization created in 1978. It offers multi-disciplinary cultural activities at the unique and outstanding performance spaces Anglicane and Galerie Louise-Carrier. Over the years, the organization has established itself as a first-class presentation venue for the whole region. Since 1991, the organization has received 15 awards of excellence and 24 nominations for its exceptional contribution to the cultural community.
The Government of Canada has provided this funding under the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
