For immediate release
Gatineau, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 – The Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), together with the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced that PWGSC and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have received approval from Treasury Board to move forward with the procurement phase of the RCMP “E” Division Headquarters Relocation Project. As the first part of the procurement phase, PWGSC will issue a Vendor Notification on MERX on February 6, 2008.
“We are pleased to be able to move forward with this very important project for the RCMP, and for Canadians,” said Minister Fortier. “The Vendor Notification serves as a notice to all interested parties that Public Works and Government Services Canada will soon begin engaging in the competitive procurement phase of this project.”
PWGSC and the RCMP are working together to build a new headquarters facility for the RCMP “E” Division in British Columbia. The new purpose-built facility will be located in Surrey and will provide office and special purpose accommodation for over 2,500 headquarters personnel.
“The need for a new headquarters facility for the RCMP “E” Division is great,” said Minister Day. “The current facility in Vancouver is no longer meeting our needs for personnel, security or infrastructure, and in fact, has not done so for a long time. This new facility will allow us to move forward with a more integrated and intelligence-based approach to policing and demonstrates our government’s commitment to improving the safety and security of all Canadians.”
The Vendor Notification provides advance notice to development teams that PWGSC is expecting to issue a Request for Qualifications during the spring of 2008. Qualified teams may then be asked to respond to a detailed Request for Proposals. PWGSC will post all notices and requests on MERX at www.merx.com.
