Vancouver, British Columbia
The Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, today announced $550,000 to upgrade a popular Science World exhibit, Search: The Sara Stern Gallery.
"The Government of Canada is proud to invest in this Science World exhibit, which will further promote awareness of science and technology for the many children and families who visit the centre," said Minister Ambrose. "Our hope is that the newly renovated Gallery will inspire young British Columbians to pursue education and careers in science and technology."
Science World continues to provide children and families with access to leading-edge, curriculum-linked exhibits, galleries, films and educational programs to generate excitement and interest in science and technology. Search: The Sara Stern Gallery is currently under renovation and scheduled to re-open in September 2008. The newly designed exhibition will feature hands-on exhibits that reflect British Columbia's natural environment and indigenous species.
"Science World is thrilled by Western Economic Diversification Canada's generous support of our mission," says Bryan Tisdall, President & CEO, Science World. "These funds will be used to rejuvenate the much-loved Search: The Sara Stern Gallery--Science World's primary resource for natural sciences. This gallery has remained virtually unchanged since it opened in 1989, and we're excited by the opportunity to finally present the natural wonders of our world with more engaging exhibits and programs."
Science World British Columbia, a self-supporting non-profit organization, stimulates positive attitudes toward science and technology in a fun, interactive environment, promoting the development of a knowledge-based society in British Columbia.
Western Economic Diversification Canada is a department of the Government of Canada that works in partnership with the provinces, industry associations and communities to encourage diversification of the western economy, as well as to represent the interests of the West in national decision-making.
