Ottawa – February 29, 2008-Today, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will be honouring eight police officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for acts of bravery. These eight RCMP officers along with several other members of Canadian police forces, emergency personnel and civilians are being invested with the Decorations for Bravery in a ceremony to be held at Rideau Hall.
"I congratulate all recipients on receiving the Decoration for Bravery. These men and women have selflessly put themselves at risk in order to serve and protect others," says RCMP Commissioner William J.S. Elliott. "Our RCMP recipients are shining examples of what it means to be a police officer." Decorations for Bravery recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty by risking their lives to try to save or protect others.
