Stockwell Day Announces Appointment to the National Parole Board, Quebec Region

OTTAWA, February 8, 2008 — The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced the appointment of Anne-Marie Asselin as a part-time member of the National Parole Board (NPB) in the Quebec Region.
"Anne-Marie Asselin is a proven parole decision-maker who has served previous terms on the Board," said Minister Day. "I am confident that she will bring this extensive experience to making important decisions that contribute to public safety and the protection of our communities," he added.
Ms. Asselin of Pointe au Pic La Malbaie, Quebec, served as a full-time member of the NPB from 1987 to 1997 and as a part-time member for two terms from 1997 to 2003. From 1977 to 1987 she was co-founder and director general of le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, a non-profit organization dedicated since 1978 to music, dance and the performing arts.
Ms. Asselin is a member of the Criminology Society of Quebec and the Administrative Council of le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix.
The National Parole Board is an independent tribunal within the Public Safety Portfolio responsible for deciding the timing and conditions of release of offenders on various forms of parole. The Board contributes to the protection of the community by facilitating the timely reintegration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. The Board's first and foremost consideration in its decision-making is the safety of the public.
