FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAINT-JEAN-DE-MATHA, Quebec - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister responsible for Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Matawinie of Saint-Jean-de-Matha to help 10 young people in the Matawinie Regional County Municipality improve their employability.
"The Government of Canada helps young people overcome obstacles to employment so they can re-enter the labour market," said Minister Cannon. "This project with the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Matawinie of Saint-Jean-de-Matha will help young Quebeckers who face barriers to employment acquire the skills, knowledge, and work experience they need to find and keep quality jobs."
The Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Matawinie will receive more than $164,000 to help 10 young people, aged 16 to 30, acquire the skills they need to reintegrate into the work force. The participants will take part in a 44-week project. The first part of the project involves activities related to personal growth and employability; the second part involves activities to help participants acquire skills in planning, teamwork, and respect for work schedules, which they will acquire by working in fruit and vegetable farming and the agricultural processing industry.
Since 1996, the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Matawinie has offered services to help youth. Its team has developed expertise in intervention, the integration of young adults into society and the workplace, and the coordination of projects involving community needs.
Service Canada provides project funding through the Skills Link program, which helps youth facing barriers to employment obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to participate in the work force.
Skills Link is one of three Government of Canada programs for youth. The two others are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus. These programs offer a range of activities to meet each participant's needs.
