OTTAWA, March 1, 2008 - The Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will attend the Third Annual Memorial for Rafic Hariri tomorrow.
"The Government of Canada recognizes the legacy and achievements of Rafic Hariri and his role in strengthening relations between Canada and Lebanon," said Secretary of State Kenney. "He left us with a model and a legacy to respect human dignity across differences, and he will be remembered for his educational and philanthropic endeavours."
On February 14, 2005, the former Prime Minister of Lebanon Rafic Hariri was assassinated in an explosion that targeted his motorcade. Future Group - Ottawa is the Lebanese-Canadian organization that, on the third anniversary of his assassination, will be honouring Mr. Hariri at Tabaret Hall, the same hall where he was granted an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa in 1997.
