TORONTO – Today, a Sussex, New Brunswick company became the first recipient of a new award that recognizes significant advancements in energy-efficient space heating and cooling technologies. The ēKOCOMFORT Awar rd was presented in Toronto by Wajid Khan, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville on behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources.
"The world is undergoing a transformation as the demand for cleaner and more efficient technologies is growing at a tremendous rate, and the Government of Canada is very supportive of Canadian companies who are at the leading edge of new energy-efficient technologies," said Mr. Khan.
"Today I'm pleased that Canada 's NY Thermal is receiving the ēKOCOMFORT Award in recognition of their innovative, energy-efficient, world-class, all-in-one HVAC system."
NY Thermal has developed the most advanced and energy-efficient integrated appliance in the w orld – the Matrix Total Home System – which incorporates the functions of a furnace, water heater, boiler, and efficient heat recovery ventilator (HRV), and is air conditioning ready. The Matrix is more efficient in heat recovery, water hea ting and space heating, and also uses considerably less electricity than the total consumption of the component appliances in a conventional configuration.
"The development of ēKOCOMFORT integrated residential HVAC products has made C anada a leader in this technology worldwide," said Warren Heeley, President of the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada. "We congratulate NY Thermal as the first recipient of the ēKOCOMFORT Award."
The ēKOCOMFORT Award is the first of its kind in Canada to recognize manufacturers who develop integrated space heating/hot water/ventilation systems which meet a new performance standard for energy efficiency, which is the CSA P.10 Standard.
The CSA P.10 Standard was published last year, giving builders and consumers a way to compare the performance of integrated mechanical systems. It was developed by the Canadian Standards Association in partnership with manufacturers and Natural Resour ces Canada's CANMET Energy Technology Centre.
The Matrix is the first integrated mechanical systems appliance that not only qualifies under P.10, but to exceed the requirements for the 'Premium' performance designation.
"I am extr emely proud of the results of the Matrix development project," stated NY Thermal's President Kevin Dennison. "We dedicated four years and millions of dollars to develop the Matrix IMS, and we are very encouraged by the response to our efforts. We recog nize that the Matrix is the most advanced heating appliance on the planet; however, we are continuing to develop the Matrix by improving its features, efficiency and operation."
NY Thermal is currently constructing a new state-of-the-art f acility in Saint John, New Brunswick, that will house the Matrix production, training and research.
