FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BROOKS, Alberta - Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, was home today to announce the location of a new Service Canada Centre in Brooks, Alberta.
"With the opening of this Service Canada Centre, people in Brooks won't have to travel to Medicine Hat or Lethbridge when they need to access many government services," said Minister Solberg. "Now it will be easier for our residents to submit passport applications, and get access to other important services, such as applying for Social Insurance Numbers or Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security benefits."
The new Service Canada Centre is scheduled to open its doors in Brooks in early summer 2008, and will be located in the Cassils Shopping Plaza at 608 2nd Street West. Once it opens its doors, there will be a total of 20 Service Canada Centres operating in Alberta.
Because Brooks is located so close to the United States, there is a high demand for passport-receiving services and rapid Social Insurance Number applications. The Service Canada Centre will provide members of the community and surrounding area with reliable in-person assistance much closer to home.
Service Canada brings Government of Canada services and benefits together in a single delivery network. It provides Canadians with one-stop service they can access however they choose-by phone at 1 800 O-Canada, on the Internet at servicecanada.gc.ca, or in person at Service Canada Centres across the country.
