PLUM POINT, NL – Mr. Jeffrey Mitchelmore of Pine's Cove was fined $350 on January 28, 2008 in Plum Point Provincial Court for fishing without a valid licence. On October 10, 2007 a fishery officer from the St. Anthony Detachment, requested a copy of his licence conditions and discovered Mr. Mitchelmore did not renew his 2007 scallop licence prior to engaging in the fishery in NAFO Division 4R (Western Newfoundland).
Corner Brook
Mr. Gordon Lee Youden of Lark Harbour was fined $1,000 on November 13, 2007 in Corner Brook Provincial Court for possession of undersized halibut. He was also fined $750 for offloading cod without a dockside observer present.
On June 23, 2007, fishery officers from the Rocky Harbour Detachment on patrol in Beverly's Cove noticed a dory that landed about 75 meters away. Upon inspection, they discovered Mr. Youden had caught and offloaded cod that was not monitored and possessed halibut that was undersized. The fish were forfeited to the Crown.
Mr. Thomas Parsons and Ms. Christine Payne, both of Summerside, were fined $1,250 and $500 respectively on November 20, 2007 for fishing salmon in coastal waters during a closed time. Both individuals were also prohibited from possessing a net and carrying out fishing activities in inland or coastal waters for two years.
On July 7, 2007, fishery guardians on stakeout in coastal waters near Summerside, observed Mr. Parsons and Ms. Payne haul a net that was set for salmon. The salmon and net were forfeited to the Crown.
