OTTAWA, April 14, 2008 - The Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced the appointments of Laurie Watson and Linda Cardinal as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
"I am delighted to welcome Ms. Watson and Ms. Cardinal to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization," said Minister Verner. "I am convinced that their respective experience in communication and sociology will be of great benefit to the museum."
Ms. Watson is President of Merlin Edge, an integrated communications company specializing in marketing, investor relations, and corporate communications. She also worked as a journalist and bureau chief for United Press International, where she wrote in-depth analysis and reported for U.S., European, and Asian media. Ms. Watson studied English and psychology at the University of Alberta.
Ms. Cardinal holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales de Paris. She is a professor in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa and holder of the university's Research Chair on La Francophonie and Public Policy. She has published a number of works dealing with such topics as language policy, government relations with language minorities, and citizenship in Canada and abroad. She has also held the Craig Dobbin Chair of Canadian Studies at University College Dublin from 2002 to 2004 and the Chaire en études canadiennes at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris 3, from 2006 to 2007.
