Calgary, Alta., April 4, 2008 - On March 17, 2008, Basic Environmental Systems and Technology Inc. (BEST) of Sherwood Park, Alta., entered a guilty plea in Al lberta Provincial Court in Edmonton to one count of violating Section 3 of the Fertilizer Act. The company was fined $10,000.
During a routine on-farm inspection in 2005, a CFIA inspector discovered a soil supplement manufactured by Basic Environmental Systems and Technology Inc. that had not been registered or labelled as required.
The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal legislation including the Fertilizer Act and its regulations. The Fertilizer Act is designed to ensure that all fertilizers and supplements manufactured, imported and s old in Canada meet these requirements.
