The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Mexican Secretary of External Affairs Patricia Espinosa in Washington on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
"Strong and productive relationships with our North American neighbours are essential for Canada's future prosperity and Canadians' quality of life," said Minister Bernier. "We share key interests with Mexico and the United States and work with these countries on many levels to create a more competitive, dynamic and secure continent."
Minister Bernier and secretaries Rice and Espinosa are meeting to discuss the upcoming North American Leaders' Summit in New Orleans. As part of Canada's re-engagement in the Americas, they are expected to discuss hemispheric issues and trilateral cooperation in the region. The upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and G8 summits are also expected to be on the agenda.
