OTTAWA, April 15, 2008 - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced that Linda Lennon has been re-appointed as a part-time member of the Ontario region of the National Parole Board. Minister Day also announced the re-appointment of Michel Pallascio and the appointment of Marie-France Pelletier as full-time members of the Quebec region.
Ontario Region
Linda Lennon of Shakespeare, Ontario has been re-appointed as a part-time member. Ms. Lennon was appointed to the Board as a part-time member in May of 2005. She had been a full-time member of the Board from 1993-1998. Ms. Lennon was also previously an office manager at the Financial Building Corporation of Canada in Waterloo where she worked from 1998 to 2005. She was also a councillor for the City of Guelph and served on a number of committees, chairing three of them – Planning and Development, Community Services and Administrative Services. She has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Guelph.
Quebec Region
Michel Pallascio of Montreal, Quebec, has been re-appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Pallascio was first appointed to the Board as a full-time member in March 2003. A lawyer of wide-ranging experience, he has held various positions with the Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréal, including that of chairperson from 1994 to 1998. Mr. Pallascio is very active in his community. He was vice-president of the Red Cross fundraising campaign and vice-president and trustee of the Édouard Montpetit Foundation.
Marie-France Pelletier of Montreal, Quebec, has been appointed as a full-time member. Ms. Pelletier is currently Chief of Staff of the Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University. In 2006, she was Deputy Minister, Policy and Priorities Executive Office for the Government of New Brunswick. Ms. Pelletier has a law degree from the Université de Moncton.
"This underlines the federal government's commitment to ensuring that appointments to the National Parole Board are based on merit and ability," said Minister Day. "The National Parole Board is an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities. It is important, therefore, that we appoint highly qualified and committed people," he added.
