OTTAWA, ON (April 17, 2008) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced three new appointments to the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board. The new members are Chief Terrance Paul of Membertou First Nation (Nova Scotia), Mr. Pita Aatami of Kuujjuaq (Quebec) and Chief Sharon Stinson Henry of Rama Mnjikaning First Nation (Ontario). Each appointment is for 3 years, effective April 17, 2008.
"Each of these new members brings a unique set of perspectives and accomplishments to the overall expertise of the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board," said Minister Strahl. "As the Board continues to support the Government of Canada's work to develop new measures to increase Aboriginal participation in the economy, I look forward to the contributions these individuals will make to this important work."
The National Aboriginal Economic Development Board is mandated by federal Cabinet, and members are appointed by Order-in-Council. The Board's role is to advise Ministers on policy, programming and program coordination matters related to Aboriginal economic development. Board members are representative of regions across the country and of all Aboriginal heritage groups.
