QUEBEC CITY –The Canadian Coast Guard wishes to notify coastal residents and visitors on the Lower North Shore that it will begin spring icebreaking operations in harbours between Harrington and Blanc Sablon on or about April 11.
CCGS T1100 will open the harbours of Harrington, Tete a la Baleine, La Tabatiere, St Augustin and Blanc Sablon.
Anyone with equipment on the ice is advised to move it to safety. The Coast Guard strongly recommends strollers, fishermen and snowmobilers not to remain on the ice when they see an icebreaker operating nearby; the ice may move and put anyone within the vessel's operating zone in real danger.
CCGS T1100 can be recognized by its red hull with a broad diagonal white stripe amidships and white smokestack with a red maple leaf.
