The RCMP in New Brunswick are applauding the quick thinking of a 5-year old boy from Keswick Ridge who was able to call 9-1-1 and rescue his mother who was trapped in a pile of snow.
On Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 2:38pm, the RCMP's Operational Communications Centre in Fredericton received an emergency call from 5-year old Kyle Daley from Keswick Ridge. The boy was calling for help for his mother who had become trapped in snow outside the home.
The mother had gone out to get some firewood when snow from the woodpile fell, trapping her underneath. After more than two hours, Kyle who was in the home with his 3-year old brother went outside to search for his mother. He couldn't see her but did hear her tell him to call 9-1-1. The boy called the emergency number and stayed on the phone with the operator until emergency crews arrived at the home to rescue his mother.
The RCMP have presented Kyle with a toy RCMP police car and a certificate of appreciation for his quick thinking.
