Every year thousands of people across Canada donate freely of their time and energy to support programs of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and to help make their communities safer. During National Volunteer Week, from April 27 to May 3, the RCMP would like to recognize and thank our many volunteers for their valued service.
The RCMP is launching special anniversary pins and certificates to be presented to our volunteers. The pins feature the well-known silhouette of an RCMP mounted rider in a specially designed logo along with the number 5, 10, 15 or 20, signifying the number of years individual recipients have served as RCMP volunteers.
"I hope recipients of these pins will wear them with pride," says RCMP Commissioner William Elliott. "We owe our volunteers so much for their service and support to the RCMP and to the communities."
Chaplains, auxiliary constables, search and rescue helpers, and Neighborhood Watch organizers represent just a few of the volunteers who work alongside RCMP members to promote crime prevention, support victims of crime, and help maintain public order. Others keep a watchful eye out at airports or along coastlines, distribute safety information at community events, or participate in Crimestoppers' activities.
The theme for this year's National Volunteer Week is "From Compassion to Action". Volunteer Canada offers promotional items and ideas to help organizations mark this special week, and to promote the benefits of volunteering.
