Among the key 2008-2010 strategic priorities noted in Framing our Direction (PDF, 90.3 KB), SSHRC is undertaking a blue ribbon panel assessment of the quality and integrity of its peer-review practices to enrich the quality of its peer-review system. We are pleased to report that the membership of the blue ribbon panel has now been confirmed. The Panel features a prestigious list of international experts in merit review, namely:
- Michèle Lamont (Chair), Robert I. Goldman Professor of European Studies; Professor of Sociology and African and African American Studies, Harvard University
- Michael Gibbons, Honorary Professor, Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex
- Linda Hutcheon Professor, English and Comparative Literature, University of Toronto
- Ursula Lehmkuhl, First Vice President, Freie Universität Berlin
- David Lightfoot, Assistant Director, National Science Foundation (USA)
- Doug McEachern, Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), University of Western Australia
- Toni Scarpa, Director of the Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health (USA)
The Panel will be meeting over the next few months as it examines the principles and approaches used to design quality peer-review processes, including the selection of assessors and adjudication panels, guidance to external adjudicators, the role of observers, as well as issues related to policies and practices to protect the integrity of the peer review process. The Blue Ribbon Panel is expected to complete its work in the Fall.
