Val-d'Or, Quebec, May 2, 2008– The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $37,356 in funding, half of it in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to the firm Valléa d'Or, a new manufacturer of cabinetry products and components.
The allocated funds will enable this Val-d'Or enterprise to acquire equipment necessary for the manufacture of custom finishing products such as mouldings and decorative boards for the construction and renovation markets.
"This financial support to Valléa d'Or is consistent with the measures our government has put in place to stimulate the emergence of new enterprises and reduce the tax regulations that govern them. This company's project, which will help diversify and strengthen the Val-d'Or economy, confirms the importance of encouraging young entrepreneurs like Éric Godbout to launch a business in such sectors as secondary wood processing," noted Minister Blackburn.
Wood processing is a key sector for Abitibi-Témiscamingue, as are tourism, forestry, mining, and agri-food processing. Indeed, it is in these areas that Canada Economic Development intends to focus its development efforts for the region.
Awarded through the Community Economic Diversification Initiative – Vitality, this contribution is consistent with Canada Economic Development's mandate to foster the long-term economic growth of Quebec's regions.
