FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
QUÉBEC, Quebec - Sylvie Boucher, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and for Status of Women and Member of Parliament for Beauport–Limoilou, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Montmorency to help 10 young people in the Québec area improve their employability.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the Chantiers urbains project," said Ms. Boucher. "This project has proven to be useful in past years, as much for the young participants as for their community. Without doubt, the 10 young people who take part in this project will gain the skills and abilities that will help them succeed in joining the work force."
The more than $34,000 in funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Montmorency will permit 10 young people who have difficulty finding work to improve their employability. The Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Montmorency offers youth aged 16 to 35 the tools to help them be informed and find direction, and provides them with the counselling and encouragement they need to find a job or return to school.
Through the Chantiers urbains project, participants will undertake a variety of activities related to landscape management. They will also participate in cultural and personal-growth activities, and will share best practices. They will also learn about the realities of the work force, and will develop a sense of community.
Service Canada is funding this project through its Skills Link program, which helps youth facing barriers to employment obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to participate in the work force.
Skills Link is one of three Government of Canada employment programs for youth. The two others are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus. These programs offer a range of activities to meet each participant's needs.
