FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Josée Verner, Member of Parliament for Louis-Saint-Laurent and Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, and Minister for La Francophonie, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Chauveau to help 10 young people in the Québec area improve their employability.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support local organizations that aim to improve the outlook of young people in the Québec region," said Minister Verner. "Through this project, the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Chauveau will help the young participants from the Laurentien and Haute-Saint-Charles areas who face barriers to employment gain the skills and knowledge they need to enter the job market or return to school."
The more than $35,000 in funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Chauveau will help 10 young people participate in the Chantier urbain project, which includes such activities as cleaning and light pruning on certain paths in Cap-Rouge, Riverain Park, and Saint-Augustin Lake, as well as contributing to the revitalization of walking paths in the northern section of Mont Bélair Park. The organization helps young adults between the ages of 16 and 35 with their job searches, scholastic orientation, and entrepreneurship, and develops other projects to improve their chances of finding employment.
The participants will have the chance to take part in a 26-week project that will provide them with opportunities to open themselves to others by participating in cultural, athletic, recreational, and community-support activities.
Service Canada is funding this project through its Skills Link program, which helps youth facing barriers to employment obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to participate in the work force.
Skills Link is one of three Government of Canada employment programs for youth. The two others are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus. These programs offer a range of activities to meet each participant's needs.
