OTTAWA - The Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced another call for proposals to the Women's Community Fund of the Women's Program of Status of Women Canada.
"The Government of Canada is committed to advancing equality for women by improving their economic and social conditions, and their participation in democratic life," said Minister Verner. "We are proud to invest in innovative projects that share these goals and have the potential to make a real, positive difference in the lives of women and girls in communities across Canada."
Status of Women Canada will focus its support on projects that address its 2008-2009 funding priorities: women's economic security and prosperity (with a focus on financial literacy); women's leadership development; women's safety; and eliminating all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls.
Funding is available to eligible not-for-profit and for-profit organizations to carry out projects at the local, regional and national levels. As a condition of eligibility, projects must advance the economic, social and democratic situation of women by supporting them directly in their communities.
In 2007-2008, over $26 million over three years was approved under the Women's Community Fund for projects in all parts of the country.
The deadline for submissions to the Women's Community Fund under the new call for proposals is July 2, 2008. Applications, Guidelines and a new Application Guide are available on the Status of Women Canada web site at http://www.swc-cfc.gc.ca/.
Status of Women Canada is a federal government agency working to promote the full participation of women in the economic, social and democratic life of Canada.
