Entrepreneurs and immigrant workers will benefit from Government of Canada funding through Western Economic Diversification Canada, aimed at expanding employment opportunities and business development in Surrey, British Columbia.
Funding of $120,000 to support a new employment training initiative managed by the United Chinese Community Enrichment Services Society (S.U.C.C.E.S.S.) was announced today by Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification.
"Today's announcement will help deliver programs and services aimed at ensuring B.C.'s immigrant labour force has the opportunity to obtain the training needed to be successful," said MP Grewal. "The Government of Canada is proud to work in partnership with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to promote strong regional business growth."
The investment will support S.U.C.C.E.S.S.' Tomorrow's Workplace program, which works closely with Surrey-based employers and industry associations to identify recruitment and training opportunities for immigrants and visible minorities. The project will conduct research and development on recruitment methods, employee training, and employee retention practices for the use of local industry leaders.
"Tomorrow's Workplace is a unique community-based economic development initiative. It is the result of close cooperation between Western Economic Diversification Canada staff and organizations that work every day in Surrey including the Surrey Board of Trade, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the Social Policy Committee, Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus and Kwantlen University" said Bill Beatty, Project Director of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. "This blend of local community organizations, businesses and educational institutions working together for better business in Surrey, is a model for collaborative business development. We look forward to seeing the results in the near future."
