Young entrepreneurs will benefit from federal funding aimed at expanding employment opportunities and business development throughout British Columbia.
Funding to Junior Achievement B.C. of $130,000 was announced today by Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Minister of Western Economic Diversification.
"Today's announcement will build educational and professional opportunities for BC youth and foster positive relationships between youth and communities," said MP Grewal. "The Government of Canada is proud to support Junior Achievement British Columbia in nurturing and inspiring Canada's youth to become future business leaders."
Funding will assist Junior Achievement B.C. (JABC) to develop a new marketing campaign to achieve growth and sustainability for the Association. Specifically, Junior Achievement will brand its proven business programs with community leaders, educators and youth, and create new marketing products, including new program information materials, communication tools and an interactive website. An Alumni program will also be developed to expand the capacity of the volunteer network and awareness of the Junior Achievement program in general.
"Western Economic Diversification Canada has supported many Junior Achievement projects. They recognize the important role our organization plays in inspiring future leaders for our province," said Jan Bell-Irving, President of Junior Achievement British Columbia. "This latest project will make a significant difference in our ability to create awareness for our business education programs. As a result, more students will develop the skills needed to become successful business leaders that our economy needs to stay strong."
Junior Achievement B.C. is an international, not-for-profit organization committed to inspiring and motivating B.C.'s youth through business education. Their programs offer students in grades 5-12 the opportunity to acquire valuable business acumen, develop leadership qualities, and discover new career possibilities. Since 1955, JABC has been an integral part of many communities across B.C. with offices in Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George. Their mandate is to teach students about the principles and dynamics of business through hands-on activities and open dialogue with volunteers from the business community.
Western Economic Diversification Canada is a department of the Government of Canada that works in partnership with the provinces, academic institutions, research organizations, industry associations and communities to stimulate and encourage diversification of the western economy, as well as to represent the interests of the West in national decision-making.
