SASKATOON, May 5, 2008 - The people of Saskatchewan and visitors to the province will enjoy a unique family-friendly festival this summer that features a variety of folk music from different regions of Canada, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Carol Skelton, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced funding for the John Arcand Fiddle Fest.
Funding of $15,000 will enable the organization to offer a dynamic program showcasing diverse fiddle and dance styles for the 11th Annual John Arcand Fiddle Fest. This distinctive festival takes place from August 7 to 10, 2008. Activities include fiddle workshops tailored to different styles and skill levels, guitar and piano accompaniment instruction, Red River jigging workshops, fiddle competitions, evening concerts, and old time dances.
"Our Government is committed to providing the people of Saskatchewan with opportunities to access arts of all forms," said Minister Verner. "The Government of Canada is proud to support this unique festival's work in providing positive cultural experiences to communities in the province."
"The John Arcand Fiddle Fest is a showcase of multicultural music and dance, featuring quality artists," said Mrs. Skelton. "This event adds to the cultural diversity of our province, while benefiting our economy and artistic vitality. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all the staff and volunteers involved in putting on this event again this year."

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
