FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
QUÉBEC, Quebec- Daniel Petit, Member of Parliament for Charlesbourg–Haute-Saint-Charles, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Charlesbourg-Chauveau to help 10 young people in the Quebec region improve their employability.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support local organizations that aim to improve the outlook of young people in the Québec region," said Mr. Petit. "Through this project, Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Charlesbourg-Chauveau will help the young participants who face barriers to employment gain the skills and knowledge they need to enter the job market or return to school."
The more than $38,000 in funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Charlesbourg-Chauveau will permit 10 young people to participate in the Chantier urbain project, which will involve community activities and landscaping. The organization's mandate focuses on the economic and social integration of young adults between the ages of 16 and 35, regardless of their socio-economic situation.
The participants will have the chance to take part in a 30-week project, during which they will perform specific activities on the land in two districts. The specific nature of these activities will vary as the work is conducted, allowing the young people to engage in many learning experiences without their becoming routine.
Service Canada is funding this project through its Skills Link program, which helps youth facing barriers to employment obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to participate in the work force.
Skills Link is one of three Government of Canada employment programs for youth. The two others are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus. These programs offer a range of activities to meet each participant's needs.
