The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making available $60,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and/or individuals to take part in the environmental assessment of the proposed Kitimat-Summit Lake Pipeline Looping Project (KSL).
Pacific Trails Pipelines proposes to construct and operate a pipeline loop of the existing Pacific Northern Gas (PNG) natural pipeline system between Kitimat, British Columbia and Summit Lake, British Columbia. The pipeline development as proposed by the proponent consists of the following components: approximately 462 km of 914 mm (36 inch) diameter pipeline between Kitimat and Summit Lake; one compressor station located near the mid-point of the new pipeline, south of Burns Lake; approximately 2 km of 254 mm (10 inch) diameter pipeline connecting the existing PNG system at the existing Methanex Meter Station in Kitimat to the KSL pipeline; measurement and odorant injection equipment at the existing Methanex Meter Station; and temporary construction work space, work camps for construction employees, equipment storage areas, and new and upgraded access roads.
The project is subject to a comprehensive study under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Transport Canada are the federal responsible authorities for the project assessment.
To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the environmental assessment of the project. This funding is intended for activities that will follow the public consultation currently underway on the scope of the project.
