OTTAWA, June 23, 2008 - The Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women, Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced the appointment of Yves Trépanier as a member of the Canadian Cultural Export Review Board.
"Mr. Trépanier possesses a wealth of knowledge in the area of art dealing and exchange within both a Canadian and international context," said Minister Verner. "I am pleased to welcome him as a member of the Review Board."
Mr. Trépanier is actively involved in the Canadian arts community. He played an essential role in the creation of several impressive art institutions in Calgary, which included co-founding the TrépanierBaer gallery, which specializes in the exhibition and sale of both Canadian and international contemporary art. He also contributed to the founding of the Visual Arts Week Society and is a founding board member of the Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA). Mr. Trépanier is Chair of the Arts and Culture Committee of the Calgary Foundation and sits on the Board of Governors of the Alberta College of Art and Design.
Minister Verner also announced the reappointment of Burton Glendenning as a member of the Canadian Cultural Export Review Board. Mr. Glendenning provides exceptional expertise in the archival domain.
The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board has a mandate to determine whether a cultural property is of outstanding significance or of national importance under the terms of the Cultural Property Export and Import Act. It is also responsible for determining the fair market value of objects donated to Canadian institutions, including libraries, archives, and museums. In addition, the Board reviews appeals of applications denied for permits to export cultural property.
