On August 30, 2006, the Government of Canada announced the RCMP Academy would receive $37 million over a two-year period to expand and refurbish the Academy. These upgrades were announced as part of a broader package to tackle crime and provide the RCMP with the tools they need to keep Canadians and their communities safe and secure.
The investment has been used to complete the following activities:
- Six temporary dorms housing 32 cadets each;
- A new laundry trailer;
- A new Food Services building featuring state-of-the-art commercial kitchen technology and service delivery systems to replace the existing Division Mess (anticipated completion date December 2008);
- Renovations to create a Multi-Purpose Training Facility which houses a running track, a Drill floor and a detachment;
- Renovations to the operational training venues located in the Multi-Purpose Training Facility;
- A 25-meter indoor firearms range including associated classroom, washroom and storage facilities; and,
- The construction of an additional 4,200-square feet of space for the weight-training and cardiovascular conditioning room, as well as locker rooms for staff and female cadets in the RCMP Academy Fitness Centre.
