Montreal, Quebec - June 26, 2008 - As millions of travellers prepare for their summer getaway, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) urge air travellers to be vigilant when packing their bags.
"Travellers can actively improve the pre-board screening process by being prepared," stated Yves Duguay, Vice President of Operations at CATSA. "This is why CATSA is reminding them of the simple steps to help everyone get through the security process as fast and stress-free as possible."
During the period starting in June and ending in late August, Aéroports de Montréal will expect to see more than 19,000 passengers on average go through the Montreal-Trudeau Airport every day.
"ADM would like to remind passengers that shops located past the pre-board screening checkpoints offer a variety of useful products to travellers," indicated Normand Boivin, Vice President of Airport Operations.
TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS
- Quantity restrictions on LIQUIDS, GELS & AEROSOLS: Store items in containers no larger than 100mL, and place the containers inside a 1 litre clear, resealable plastic bag. One bag per passenger. This applies to all your summertime necessities, including sunscreen, bug repellent and hand sanitizer. To be safe, pack all liquids, gels and aerosols in your checked baggage.
- COMPUTERS AND ELECTRONICS: Remove all laptop computers, video cameras with cassettes, and cameras with film from their carrying cases and place them in a separate tray. All other electronic items, such as digital cameras (including digital video cameras), cell phones, mobile pagers, CD or DVD players, and personal digital assistants can stay inside the carry-on baggage.
- CAMPING AND SPORTING GEAR:
- Flammable camping items such as gas containers for grills and strike-anywhere wooden matches are not allowed in carry-on or check baggage.
- Sports equipment such as golf clubs and baseball bats should be packed in the checked baggage.
- Check with your airline and visit the CATSA website for more information on packing.
