VAUDREUIL-DORION, Quebec - The Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada and Minister responsible for the region of Montréal, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. This funding will help 12 young people in the Regional County Municipality of Vaudreuil-Soulanges improve their employability.
"The Government of Canada is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled, and most flexible work force in the world," said Minister Fortier. "Through this project, the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will help these young people gain the skills and socio-professional knowledge they need to find and keep a job, start their own business, or return to school."
The more than $166,000 in funding for the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will permit these young people to take part in workshops on personal development, to gain work experience, and to fully contribute to their communities. Through this funding, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help young people gain the knowledge and skills needed to find and maintain long-term employment.
Thanks to 26 weeks of community work experience, which they will perform during the workshops they attend, the participants will benefit from concrete, stimulating, and valuable lessons that will help them prepare for the future.
Service Canada is funding this project through its Skills Link program, which helps youth facing barriers to employment obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to participate in the work force.
Skills Link is one of three Government of Canada employment programs for youth. The two others are Summer Work Experience and Career Focus. These programs offer a range of activities to meet each participant's needs.
