PARRY SOUND, Ontario, June 21, 2008 - Parry Sound will have cause for celebration as it marks the 100th Anniversary of the CP Train Trestle, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the 100th Anniversary of the CP Train Trestle in Parry Sound.
The Train Trestle Committee will receive funding of $5,000 to help with the planning and execution of a series of events that will take place from June 1 through December 31, 2008 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the CP Train Trestle. Citizens of Parry Sound will be able to participate in a number of events including musical performances and exhibitions in honour of the bridge and town landmark.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the 100th Anniversary of Parry Sound's CP Train Trestle," said Minister Verner. "We are committed to building stronger communities and to providing all Canadians with opportunities to experience and celebrate Canadian heritage and culture."
"The 100th Anniversary of the CP Train Trestle is an occasion to bring the citizens of Parry Sound together to foster community pride and celebrate local history and heritage," said Minister Clement. "The Government of Canada is proud to support such an important occasion in Parry Sound's history."

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations in Canada this year.
