SAULNIERVILLE, Nova Scotia, June 21, 2008 - Residents from the Clare area will celebrate Canada's cultural diversity and the 400th anniversary of Québec City, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.
Senator Gerald J. Comeau, on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Société acadienne de Clare.
The Société acadienne de Clare will receive $7,000 in funding to present three cultural events celebrating cultural diversity in Canada: National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint Jean Baptiste Day on June 24, and Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27. Residents and visitors to the region will be able to participate in heritage activities, musical performances, and workshops.
"The Government of Canada is pleased to announce support that will allow the Société acadienne de Clare to present activities that celebrate Canada's cultural diversity," said Minister Verner. "We are proud that this investment will assist the Société in inviting all Canadians to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Québec City. It was in 1608, when Québec City was founded, that we truly began our journey to become what we are today. The founding of Québec City also marks the founding of the Canadian state."
"Celebrate Canada! brings citizens from all over the country together to celebrate their country and to show their pride in being Canadian," said Senator Comeau. "This is a great opportunity to discover and appreciate Canada's diverse communities and to recognize their important contribution to creating the country we live in today, a country rich in diversity."

"With support from our partners, we can present various activities that promote cultural connections in the Clare area and celebrate Canadian diversity."
The Government of Canada has provided this support under the pan-Canadian funding for Celebrate Canada!'s 2008 activities, which will highlight the 400th anniversary of Québec City. This will provide Canadians from different regions with a unique opportunity to participate in community activities celebrating the 400th anniversary of Québec City. The Celebrate Canada! program promotes pride in being Canadian by encouraging participation in Celebrate Canada! activities from June 21 to July 1.
