Ottawa, June 18, 2008 - As representatives of members of the RCMP, the SRR Program will review the Commission for Public Complaints (CPC) report on Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW) with great interest. Our subject matter experts from the Officer Safety Committee will conduct a detailed analysis of the report and recommendations and will work to ensure the members' interests are protected in any policy changes which result.
"I haven't had a chance to read the report in detail yet, but I am relieved that the CPC supports the continued use of the CEW", says S/Sgt Brian Roach, a member of the National Executive of the SRR Program. "It is an important intervention tool that not only enhances officer safety, but public safety. Obviously, proper training and clear policy on the proper circumstances for its use are important." Roach adds.
