FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GEORGINA, Ontario -The Government of Canada will assist the Red Barn Theatre this summer by providing funding to hire six students under the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. Peter Van Loan, Member of Parliament for YorkâSimcoe, announced this funding today on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.
"The Red Barn Theatre has played a pivotal role in the cultural development of our community since it opened in 1949," said Mr. Van Loan. "The funding announced today will not only assist this important institution to operate for another year, but will also provide valuable work experience for six young people during the summer months."
The Red Barn Theatre will receive $33,279 in funding through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. This funding will allow the Red Barn Theatre to provide six students with valuable work experience in the performing arts field.
"The funding provided by Service Canada and the Canada Summer Jobs initiative will enable us to hire six students this summer," said Wendy Fairbairn, Executive Director of the Red Barn Theatre. "These students will help us run the theatre and, more importantly, they will be provided with the opportunity to work directly with professional theatre designers, administrators, and performers."
Canada Summer Jobs is focused on encouraging not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create jobs that not only meet their needs, but benefit students looking to gain work experience.
