OTTAWA, July 7, 2008 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) today announced the availability of $125,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and individuals take part in the environmental assessment of the proposed Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project in Labrador.
This phase II funding is being made available to help successful applicants review the proponent's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and/or prepare for and participate in the public hearings that will be announced at a later date. Phase I funding of $50 000 was allocated in August 2007 to assist recipients in reviewing the draft Guidelines for the EIS.
A funding review committee, independent of the review panel, will consider all applications and make a recommendation on the allocation of funds according to the eligibility criteria set out in the Participant Funding Program Guide. Applications received by the Agency at the address indicated below by August 6, 2008 will be considered.
The Participant Funding Program Guide and the application form are available on the Agency Web site. Information on the proposed project is also available on the Web site, under registry number 07-05-26178.
