Val-d'Or, Quebec, July 31, 2008 – The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced that CMAC Mining Group will receive $63,865 in repayable funding to purchase e a paint and sanding booth which will help it increase its productivity. This project, which will generate an overall investment of $166,355, will translate into the creation of one new position and the consolidation of about 310 existing jobs.
Lo cated in Val-d'Or, CMAC Mining Group offers Canadian and international customers shaft sinking and long hole drilling services. The enterprise also installs anchoring cables to make mining operations safer and manufactures innovatively-designed mining veh icles used in narrow-vein mining.
The Val-d'Or firm's acquisition of this new equipment is the culmination of a major strategic plan initially aimed at expanding its facilities to maximize its production, reduce delivery times and diversify and enh ance its products. Additionally, on completion of this project, CMAC Mining Group expects to find new outlets and, by extension, increase sales at home and abroad.
"In keeping with the commitment we made in our Advantage Canada plan, we have adopted various measures to help manufacturing firms become more competitive and prosper in the current economic context. In this regard, investing in specialized equipment, as CMAC Mining Group has done, is an important avenue for enhancing the productivity of firms and the competitiveness of regions," said Minister Blackburn.
In the same spirit, Canada Economic Development has also established a new $86 million funding component, called Productivity Support. This measure will help support small and medium-sized manufacturers in all regions of Quebec, in three areas: access to outside experts, adoption of new business p ractices and processes, and acquisition of leading-edge equipment and technology.
"Implementing this promising project will allow the CMAC Group to continue to focus on innovation, remain an industry leader and favourably position itself in t he Abitibi-Témiscamingue economy," the Minister concluded.
