PARKSVILE, British Columbia -Parksville residents will gain valuable experience in the construction trades through a federal funding agreement with the Community Fisheries Development Centre (CFDC). James Lunney, Member of Parliament for Nanaimo–Alberni, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.
"The Government of Canada is committed to providing individuals with meaningful work experiences that will help them obtain ongoing employment," said Mr. Lunney. "Projects like this one will provide construction experience to participants, allowing them to gain the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to find work."
CFDC will receive $68,677 through Service Canada's Job Creation Partnerships program. The four participants will receive hands-on work experience in carpentry, plumbing, basic construction, landscaping, painting, and general construction techniques by repairing and restoring the facilities at the Coombs Rodeo Grounds.
"Community Fisheries Development Centre is grateful to Service Canada for their generous financial contribution to this exciting project," said Bob Grant, Executive Director of CFDC. "The funding will help us to assist local displaced workers in upgrading current and developing new employable skills, enabling them to secure new employment opportunities in their community."
The Coombs Hillier Recreational Organization (CHRO) is also contributing funding to the project.
"The Coombs Hillier Recreational Organization is pleased to partner with the Government of Canada on the Coombs Rodeo Grounds Restoration Project," said Cliff Raymer, President of CHRO. "Our contributions will provide valuable work experience for the participants, with the end result being an exciting space that the whole community can enjoy."

Job Creation Partnerships
The Job Creation Partnerships employment benefit supports projects aimed at giving insured participants opportunities to gain meaningful work experience. At the end of the projects, clients will have recent work experience to add to their résumés. This experience, together with the networking opportunities available while on a project, increases participants' chances of successfully finding long-term employment.
