MAGOG, Quebec, July 15, 2008 - The Fête des vendanges Magog-Orford will feature expanded arts and cultural activities this year, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.
The Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Fête des vendanges Magog-Orford organization.
The organization will receive $9,000 for its 15th annual celebration, which will take place on August 30 and 31 and on September 1, 6, and 7, 2008. The festival has become one of the Eastern Townships' largest festivals. It presents tourist activities related to Quebec winemaking and agricultural food production. This year's artistic and cultural activities and major performances will feature more than 70 local artists. Residents and visitors will also be able to admire the works of a dozen local craftspeople.
"I am pleased our Government is supporting organizations like the Fête des vendanges Magog-Orford, because, in addition to increasing the exposure of local artists and craftspeople, they give communities the opportunity to experience great moments celebrating the arts and heritage," said Minister Verner. "Promoting culture, as we are today, is an important way of ensuring the social and economic vitality of Canadian communities."

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, announced in September 2007, offers Canadians new opportunities to participate in activities that showcase the arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. Many festivals and other community celebrations across Canada will benefit from this program.
