MONCTON, New Brunswick, July 17, 2008 - Laughter and humour will be featured in the Greater Moncton Area, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.
Mike Allen, Member of Parliament (Tobique-Mactaquac), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the HubCap Comedy Festival.
Funding of $32,000 will provide assistance for the 2009 HubCap Comedy Festival. From February 4 to 8, 2009, approximately twenty Canadian comedic artists, both Francophone and Anglophone, will perform in various venues in the Greater Moncton Area.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support this event, which features some of the best comedic artists in Canada," said Minister Verner. "Festivals such as this one allow the public to discover our country's cultural richness and diversity while making our communities more exciting and inviting."
"The HubCap Comedy Festival provides the public of the Greater Moncton Area with renowned comedy performances," said Mr. Allen. "Our Government is proud to help improve accessibility to the arts in all regions in our country."
"The funding we receive from Canadian Heritage is critical to the success of this great cultural event, which helps us offer outreach programs to the community and ensures we can bring in the best comedians Canada has to offer," said Marshall Button, President of the festival. "Our mission of bringing laughter to the region during this dark, cold, and typically depressing time of year requires strong partners like the Arts Presentation Program, which has helped us accomplish this goal over the years. We are looking forward to another hilarious year with talented Canadian artists throughout Greater Moncton!"
The Government of Canada has provided this support through the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
