SAGUENAY - Today the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec announced the opening of a thematic exhibit on the Highway 73/175 project.
Set up in a caravan located close to Étape, in the Laurentians Wildlife Reserve, this exhibit is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, until September, 2008.
"This initiative will help Canadians learn more about one of the country's major highway projects and better understand the importance and many steps involved in implementing new infrastructure," said the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "The Government of Canada is committed to modernizing its infrastructure and the Highway 73/175 project is a great example of this commitment."
"This exhibit allows us to showcase one of Quebec's largest highway projects by giving the community the opportunity to learn about its scope and many advantages," said Ms. Julie Boulet, Quebec Minister of Transportation. "Major projects like Highway 73/175 create jobs and play a role in implementing infrastructure that helps to contribute to the development of regions and all parts of Quebec."
In general, there has been a lot of public interest in the Highway 73/175 project. That is why the Government of Quebec, in conjunction with the Government of Canada, developed this thematic exhibit designed to show the scale of the Highway 73/175 project, the quality of work of the engineering and construction firms from the National Capital (Quebec City) and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean regions as well as the collective expertise of Transport Quebec employees.
Various themes were covered, such as the history of the project, the preparation, the technical aspects, construction monitoring, environmental protection, workplace health and safety and highway safety.
