FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THUNDER BAY, Ontario -The Honourable Joe Comuzzi, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay–Superior North, today joined the Thunder Bay Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) Humble Beginnings Wall of Fame by sharing the story of his first work experience. The Humble Beginnings Wall of Fame celebrates the first work experiences of many prominent local individuals and helps inspire local youth.
"The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people get the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities," said Mr. Comuzzi. "By working with local employers, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our community has a strong and vibrant work force for the future."
SCCYs link young people with employers. The Centres provide young people with access to job postings, interview advice, assistance with résumé writing, and job-search strategies, and they give employers a location to post notices for job openings. SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.
"The Humble Beginnings Wall of Fame inspires local young people," said Adrienne Serrao, Supervisor for the Service Canada Centre for Youth in Thunder Bay. "Seeing where individuals, such as Mr. Comuzzi, have started out and what they later achieved encourages the young people to think big."
This year, employers interested in using our services and youth looking for summer employment can visit the Thunder Bay SCCY in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, at 975 Alloy Drive. They can also call the Centre at 807-346-2141, or send a fax to 807-346-2099. Job postings are available online at www.jobbank.gc.ca under "Student/Youth Job Search," "Ontario," "Thunder Bay and Area."
