No. 181
The Honourable David Emerson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement in the wake of the recent deadly attacks in Algeria:
"Canada condemns, in the strongest terms, the cowardly attacks perpetrated this morning in Algeria, including one against a bus transporting Algerian employees of a major Canadian company, in which 12 Algerians were killed. Canada also condemns yesterday's attack in Issers, which killed 43 people and wounded 45 others.
"On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.
"There is no justification for these vicious attacks. They are the desperate acts of those who wish to undermine Algeria's stability by killing innocent civilians. Canada will continue to support President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's efforts to bring back peace and prosperity in Algeria."
