Dolbeau-Mistassini, Quebec, August 8, 2008 – The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced that the firm Oxygène Dolbeau will receive $98,960 in repa ayable funding for the design, manufacture and testing of an automatic packer prototype. This project will necessitate an overall investment of $353,430 and result in the creation of seven new jobs in the Dolbeau-Mistassini area.
Oxygène Dol beau specializes in the custom manufacture of industrial equipment for use mainly by primary wood processors. The company's new automatic packer, intended for the primary and secondary wood processing sectors (sawmills, panel and beam manufacturers), will be better tailored to the particular transportation and storage requirements for wood products.
"Innovation plays an instrumental role in helping enterprises increase their productivity and maintain their competitiveness. Investing in resear ch and development will enable Oxygène Dolbeau to design a better product and gain a stronger foothold in the sector," explained Minister Blackburn. "The measures the Government of Canada put in place in its 2008 budget to encourage bus inesses to become more innovative and competitive will serve to foster the economic growth of our country, both today and for years to come. Moreover, through the $32 million Innovation Support initiative, announced as part of its 2008-2011 Strategic Plan, Canada Economic Development will assist SMEs in all regions of Quebec in their efforts to design new products and services and step up their commercializatio n activities," the Minister added.
