PORT COQUITLAM, British Columbia, August 31, 2008 - The Honourable James Moore, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific Gateway) (2010 Olympics) (Official Languages), today participated in Summer in the City, an arts and culture festival in Port Coquitlam.
"I encourage our artists to take advantage of the Cultural Olympiad of the 2010 Winter Games," said Secretary of State Moore. "The Government of Canada is a major funding partner of the Games, and we see our diversity and linguistic duality as important elements in making these Canada's Games."
Summer in the City is a two-month festival of music, arts, and culture held at various locations throughout Port Coquitlam.
Earlier this month, the Government of Canada announced a $6.6 million contribution to the
BC
150 Secretariat, a branch of British Columbia's Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. The Secretariat provides funding to events, such as Summer in the City, throughout the province as part of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the colony of British Columbia.
The Government of Canada is a committed partner in the task of delivering a successful, well-managed Winter Games in 2010.
