YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. – On August 23rd , Vice Admiral Dean McFadden will join with federal and territorial partners who are participating in Operation NANOOK 2008, to brief media on the operation, and to answer questions. Partic cipants in this briefing are expected to include representatives from the Canadian Coast Guard, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Public Health Agency Canada, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and the Canadian Border Service Agency.
T he intent of Operation NANOOK is to project sovereignty in the eastern Arctic, and to provide a means to exercise the working relationships of the CF in support of other governmental departments and agencies.
Operation NANOOK 20 08 is one of three major sovereignty operations conducted every year by the CF in Canada's North. This operation will be conducted with the participation of personnel, ships and aircraft from the Army, Navy and Air Force, working under the command of Join t Task Force (North) (JTFN). As one of six regional commands reporting to Canada Command in Ottawa, JTFN is responsible for the conduct of all routine and contingency operations in Canada's North. JTFN is headquartered in Yellowknife, N.W.T., and commande d by Brigadier-General David Millar.
